Light Switch On Off Reversed

There is just one problem.

If i turn on the light at one end of the hall then turn it off at the other end i cannot turn the light back on at the other end where the switch is already in the on position. You can reverse the wires and it will work exactly the same way. Took picture and my wife double checked 3 black wires on top right. Forgive my ignorance is this a case of face plate being put on upside down or are they wired wrong.

But you are describing a three way switch and the other one was used to turn the light on or off which reversed the function of the one you usually use. Went to home depot and bought new dimmer boucht cfl compatible dimmer as tried cfl floods before and they only lasted a few weeks hooked up same way as before. You can turn on the lights at either end separately. Dimmer in kitchen 5 dimmable flood lights went out.

To replace a reversing light switch disconnect the wiring and either unscrew the switch or if a locknut is used release this.
